FOR MUSICIANS: Ten Tips to Get You a Record Deal

 
As an unsigned artist, publicity is a huge driving force when you are looking at success in the music industry. Although it’s definitely beneficial to retain a publicist once you have your career in gear. But since you are still an upcoming musician, and you might not have enough money yet for that, you can still create a little buzz for yourself in the mean time. Here are some tips that will help get you noticed so you can get a good record deal, sponsorship or endorsement:
1.       Have a press kit: This press kit should contain a well written bio, an 8 by 10 inch Photo CD and your contact information.
2.       Hit the Gym/ look good: You have to look good, no one will like to invest in an unhealthy looking person, so make sure you hit the gym and try to improve your appearance. Improve your whole appearance; cut your hair regularly, get rid of acne and pimples from your face, bath as much as possible, have a clean set of teeth, clean your nails and smell nice. This will make people appreciate you more.
3.       Get a demo: Your demo should have at least three songs, make sure they are your best, record them in a good musical studio, make sure the mixing and mastering job is handle by a professional sound engineer. Note: On no occasion should the raw copy of your demo be distributed or sent to any label, it is yours and don’t give it to anyone.
4.       Go local: The local press (radios and televisions around you) is by far the easiest press to get, let them know your story and send in a CD. You should contact the station’s music editor or entertainment manager.
5.       Social Networking: These days social networking are all  about music, you see on twitter the way even top musical artists promote their songs there so get on twitter, facebook, MySpace and any social network where you can promote your song.
6.       Go Online: Get your songs on internet radios or put them on websites where people can download them from. Promote your songs with this website absolutely free or you have other good websites like www.tooxclusive.com, www.notjustok.com, www.irokingtv.com, www.viralsplash.com for more sites comment below with your email address. It’s never too many, promote your music in as many sites as possible.
7.        Get contacts: Contact record companies, you can reach them on twitter or facebook, send them a link to your song or much better send your CD to their address. You could also get people who love your music to sponsor you. NOTE: Contact them first before sending your CD, so it won’t end up in the trash.
8.       Go public: Attend shows going on around your area, perform your songs, and get people to like you. Improve on your stage performance, go on www.youtube.com and watch how to rock a stage. It is very necessary for an artist to have a good stage performance because the stage is like the gallery where you showcase yourself.
9.       Meet your mentors: Meet with people you admire in the industry, learn from their ideas join his entourage and follow him on tours and shows, that way you might get noticed by a record label executive.
10.   Work hard, pray hard: This is the finishing touch you can use to complement all your efforts. In any aspect in life, prayer is needed to be successful, so tell your God your plight and he is able to do it for you. They say, faith without work is zero, so work hard, always try to improve your singing skills because that’s the most important thing you need to get a deal.
